Fiel Fumbles into First

"Fumbling Thru Fatherhood" by Jared Fiel was honored with a First Place finish in the Humor category in the 11th annual Colorado Independent Publishers Association Evvy Awards on Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Denver.

"Fumbling Thru Fatherhood" is a collection of humorous stories from Fiel, an award-winning newspaper columnist, from his first six years of being a dad.

Lydia Griffin, chair of the awards, said "Fumbling Thru Fatherhood" was one of the top rated books in the contest which honors independent publishers throughout the state in several categories. Each book was reviewed by three judges for a compiled score rating.

One of the judges wrote, "Fiel's wry sense of humor is great and his fluid, easy prose makes this a fun read."

Another wrote, "It will delight anyone ... who has ever dealt with young children."

Fiel said he was thrilled with the honor and added, "This would not have been possible without one person who not only helped me produce the book, but played a large part in producing the two subjects of the book ... my lovely wife, Tracy."

The timing of the award was especially sweet for Fiel. "It came a week early, but this is a heck of a Father's Day gift," he said.
